The pre-tournament tribute dinner will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2022 (cocktail reception and dinner, 6:30 p.m.) at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium. Guests will be treated to dinner, live music, and a live auction as we celebrate 30 years of the Neighborhood Longhorns Program. The event will recognize our founders Donna Lopiano, DeLoss Dodds, Jody Conradt, Tom Penders, Kenny Jastrow, Eddie Safady, Howard Nirken and David Sords, along with our school administrator Dr. Gloria Williams with Austin Independent School District.
The golf tournament, on Monday, June 13 (tee time, 9 a.m.), at the University of Texas Golf Club, features a shotgun start. Participants include NLP celebrities and 116 amateur golfers. The five person teams will consist of four amateur golfers and one celebrity. The tournament is played as a scramble format, with prizes awarded for the first three low-gross teams. Golfers will receive lunch, commemorative gifts, and the opportunity to win additional prizes throughout the day.
Special thanks to Al Matthews and the National Association of Professional Athletes (NAPA), who founded the Celebrity Golf Tournament in 1992 to benefit youth in our community.
NEIGHBORHOOD LONGHORNS PROGRAM
The Neighborhood Longhorns Program (NLP) is part of the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement at The University of Texas at Austin and is the official community service arm of Texas Athletics. In partnership with Austin and surrounding area schools, the program serves economically disadvantaged youth who are at a high risk of experiencing academic difficulties. Since its launch at UT Austin in 1991, NLP has awarded more than $759,000 in scholarships and rewarded the academic performance of more than 101,000 students. Academic enrichment programs enable students to be rewarded with visits to the UT campus and Texas Athletic events. All funds raised during this event will benefit the Neighborhood Longhorns Program.
THE SILVER SPURS
Silver Spurs is the honorary student service organization responsible for the care and transportation of BEVO, UT’s longhorn steer mascot. Since their founding in 1937, they have provided over 2,500 campus leaders with the opportunity to give back to the school and community through philanthropic endeavors associated with BEVO.
The primary purpose of the Silver Spurs Alumni Association is to support UT Austin scholarships, NLP and expenses associated with BEVO. The NLP appreciates the support it receives from student organizations. Thanks to the support of the Silver Spurs and Silver Spurs Alumni Association, the NLP is able to provide educational program services to the youth in the community.
