NEIGHBORHOOD LONGHORNS PROGRAM
The Neighborhood Longhorns Program (NLP) is part of the Division of Campus and Community Engagement at The University of Texas at Austin and is the official community service arm of Texas Athletics. In partnership with Austin and surrounding area schools, the program serves youth in Title 1 schools who are at a high risk of experiencing academic difficulties. Since its launch at UT Austin in 1991, NLP has awarded more than $798,000 in scholarships and rewarded the academic performance of more than 107,000 students. Academic enrichment programs enable students to be rewarded with visits to the UT campus and Texas Athletic events. All funds raised during this event will benefit the Neighborhood Longhorns Program.
THE SILVER SPURS
Silver Spurs is the honorary student service organization responsible for the care and transportation of BEVO, UT’s longhorn steer mascot. Since their founding in 1937, they have provided over 2,500 campus leaders with the opportunity to give back to the school and community through philanthropic endeavors associated with BEVO.
The primary purpose of the Silver Spurs Alumni Association is to support UT Austin scholarships, NLP and expenses associated with BEVO. The NLP appreciates the support it receives from student organizations. Thanks to the support of the Silver Spurs and Silver Spurs Alumni Association, the NLP is able to provide educational program services to the youth in the community.
